Dr. Vivek Ravichandran, PhD
AIR QUALITY SPECIALIST
Dr. Ravichandran manages the Air Quality Team at T.H.E. EJ Lab. He is currently the Operations Manager of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) American Rescue Plan (ARP) Community Air Monitoring Project for Maryland, which serves 3 environmental justice (EJ) communities.
He is the academic lead of a community-university partnership with the Quadrant, which includes the environmentally-burdened communities of Cheverly, Fairmount Heights, and Seat Pleasant in Prince George's County, Maryland.
He also leads data analysis and ensures quality assurance of T.H.E. EJ Lab's suite of low-cost sensors (i.e. PurpleAirs, QuantAQ Modulairs, Met One C-12s, SENSIT SPODs) that have been deployed throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Dr. Ravichandran also provides technical assistance to EJ communities, including grant writing, data interpretation and dissemination, and works with state and local agencies to identify and implement community-driven air pollution mitigation strategies.
With a niche for statistical methods and environmental justice, Dr. Ravichandran pursued a PhD in Environmental Health Sciences from the University of Maryland, where he worked under the supervision of well-renowned EJ advocate and scholar, Dr. Sacoby Wilson, to ensure his methods to support at-risk and marginalized communities adhered to the principles of community-based participatory research (CBPR).
